In Vivo

In vivo, intracerebroventricular infusion of (R)-DOI hydrochloride in turkeys significantly increased plasma prolactin (PRL) levels (by 40% at 5 min post-infusion, peaking at 20 min). (R)-DOI hydrochloride also activated hypothalamic dopaminergic (TH-positive) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP-positive) neurons, as indicated by c-fos mRNA expression co-localization (POM: 9.2%, PMM: 44.6%, ML: 28.6%; VIP neurons: 13.2%), suggesting its role in PRL regulation via neuronal activation.
