(+)-UH 232 Maleate is a selective modulator of dopamine receptor subtypes, acting as an endogenously preferential antagonist at D₂ receptors and a partial agonist at D₃ receptors. (+)-UH 232 Maleate selectively binds to and blocks D₂ autoreceptors on central dopaminergic neurons, thereby lifting their negative feedback inhibition on dopamine synthesis and release. (+)-UH 232 Maleate binds to D₃ receptors with low intrinsic activity (0.2–0.4) and can partially activate the receptor signaling pathway. (+)-UH 232 Maleate can be used for specific studies of dopaminergic nervous system function.
